Hearings and workshops

At hearings and workshops the Royal Commission will hear from people identified by Counsel Assisting to appear as a witness and give evidence. People who are expected to appear as witnesses will be contacted by the Royal Commission in advance of the relevant hearing.  The Royal Commission will also be holding hearings in the form of workshops.

The Royal Commission will publish details of hearings and workshops to assist parties, witnesses and members of the public. *All times listed below are in the local time of the hearing location.

Melbourne Hearing 4

Mental health, oral health and allied health care

Melbourne Hearing 4 will inquire into how mental health, oral health and allied health care could be improved for people accessing aged care services.

Adelaide Workshop 2

Research, innovation and technology

The Royal Commission held a workshop in Adelaide from Monday 16 March 2020 to Tuesday 17 March 2020. It inquired into research, innovation and technology.

Future aged care program redesign

The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety held a hearing in Adelaide on the morning of Wednesday 4 March 2020 for the purpose of hearing submissions from Senior Counsel Assisting, Peter Gray QC, on aged care program redesign.

The future of the aged care workforce

Adelaide Hearing 3 inquired into staffing numbers and mix, terms and conditions of employment, workforce planning and the role of the Commonwealth, education and training of the workforce and registration of personal care workers.

Adelaide Workshop 1

Redesign of the aged care system

The first hearing of 2020 was conducted as a workshop and focused on the redesign of the aged care system. It was held in Adelaide on Monday 10 February and Tuesday 11 February 2020.

Canberra Hearing

Interfaces between the aged care and the health care systems

The Canberra hearing inquired into interfaces between the aged care system and the health care system, including both Commonwealth and state/territory programs. It examined whether older people, particularly those living in residential aged care facilities, are able to access the health services they need as they age.

Hobart Hearing

Aged care operations of selected approved providers

The Hobart Hearing inquired into the operations of selected approved providers that operate residential aged care facilities in Tasmania and elsewhere in Australia.

Mudgee Hearing

Provision of aged care in regional areas

The Mudgee Hearing inquired into arrangements for and issues associated with the provision of aged care services in regional and remote areas, including Multi-Purpose Services. The Hearing had a particular focus on aged care services in the Mudgee region.
