Hearings and workshops

At hearings and workshops the Royal Commission heard from people identified by Counsel Assisting to appear as a witness and give evidence. People who were expected to appear as witnesses were contacted by the Royal Commission in advance of the relevant hearing. The Royal Commission also held hearings in the form of workshops.

Canberra Hearing

Interfaces between the aged care and the health care systems

The Canberra hearing inquired into interfaces between the aged care system and the health care system, including both Commonwealth and state/territory programs. It examined whether older people, particularly those living in residential aged care facilities, are able to access the health services they need as they age.

Hobart Hearing

Aged care operations of selected approved providers

The Hobart Hearing inquired into the operations of selected approved providers that operate residential aged care facilities in Tasmania and elsewhere in Australia.

    Mudgee Hearing

    Provision of aged care in regional areas

    The Mudgee Hearing inquired into arrangements for and issues associated with the provision of aged care services in regional and remote areas, including Multi-Purpose Services. The Hearing had a particular focus on aged care services in the Mudgee region.

      Diversity in aged care

      Melbourne Hearing 2 inquired into diversity in aged care, including culturally and linguistically diverse people, LGBTI groups, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, care leavers, veterans, and the homeless or those at risk of homelessness.

      Melbourne Hearing 1 inquired into younger people in residential aged care, with a focus on impact, drivers and appropriateness of allocation policy as well as how to best support young people wishing to leave residential aged care.

            Access to aged care and clinical care

            The Darwin and Cairns Hearing focused on aspects of care in residential, home and flexible aged care programs and examined rural and regional issues and quality of life for individuals in care.
