Hearings and workshops

At hearings and workshops the Royal Commission heard from people identified by Counsel Assisting to appear as a witness and give evidence. People who were expected to appear as witnesses were contacted by the Royal Commission in advance of the relevant hearing. The Royal Commission also held hearings in the form of workshops.

Broome Hearing

Access and inclusion

The Broome Hearing of the Royal Commission focused on care in remote areas, unique care needs of Indigenous Australians and issues of access and inclusion.

The first Adelaide hearing of the Royal Commission heard about key features of the aged care, quality, safety and complaints system, about how that system works in practice and at a general level.

Preliminary Hearing

Preliminary Hearing of Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety

The preliminary public hearing of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety was held in Adelaide at the Roma Mitchell Commonwealth Law Court Building on Friday, 18 January 2019.

At the hearing, Commissioners the Honourable Richard Tracey AM RFD QC and Ms Lynelle Briggs AO, set out their vision for the operation of the Royal Commission, including the breadth of topics to be covered and the conduct of the hearings to follow. Senior Counsel Assisting the Royal Commission, Peter Gray QC and Dr Timothy McEvoy QC, made brief opening statements. No witnesses appeared.
