Younger people in residential aged care

The Royal Commission will hold a four-day public hearing in Melbourne from Monday 9 September to Wednesday 11 September 2019, and on Friday  13 September 2019. At this public hearing, the Royal Commission will inquire into younger people living in residential aged care, with a focus on:

  • the impact that living in residential aged care has on younger people
  • understanding the drivers which result in younger people being admitted into and staying in residential aged care
  • the appropriateness of the allocation of policy responsibility in this area to the health system, social services system and aged care system
  • how to best support younger people who wish to leave residential aged care

Leave to appear

Applications for leave to appear at the public hearing from anyone who considers that they have a direct and substantial interest in the public hearing must be received by 5pm (ACST) on Friday 30 August 2019.

Individuals who have been invited or required to give evidence at the public hearing are invited to make an application for leave to appear. Any application for leave to appear will be determined in accordance with Practice Guideline 3 and must be made using the Royal Commission's application form.
